To all math-challenged persons on the Internet: I have taught math, computer science, English as a second language, reading and writing (and, obviously from these web pages - Real Estate) on the community college to university level since 1954. The one constant I've been forced to deal with daily is the pitiful level of arithmetic and mathematic knowledge (was that correct English? Look it up!) in this country. Apparently people are being taught on a "Get them out of MY class" basis all over the country on every level, to the point that math has become so mysterious and so vague to most adults that they avoid it strenuously. When forced to solve a problem, they tend to think back to the "examples" they were given in school (having no idea of "concepts", "formulas" and "equations"), blunder ahead based upon their fallacious memories and, of course, come up with the wrong answer and, more's the pity - they don't even know they're wrong.
